CSIR-SERC’s recent technology transfer of the “Portable Lightweight Foldable Module for Make-Shift Hospitals and other needs (PoliTal-M)” to Sehgal Doors Ltd., New Delhi, a member of Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB), marks a significant milestone for India’s emergency response and modular construction industries.
Transforming Emergency Housing and Healthcare Capabilities
CSIR-SERC’s PoliTal-M technology—developed by premier experts in lightweight structural engineering—brings a game-changing solution designed for rapidly deployable, safe, and modular units ideal for emergency shelters, construction site accommodations, and remote area facilities. The agreement, signed by Dr. N. Anandavalli (Director, CSIR-SERC) and Shri Neeraj Sehgal (M/s Sehgal Doors), opens up new opportunities for delivering quick, efficient, and scalable responses to crises and infrastructure needs.
What Makes PoliTal-M Revolutionary?
PoliTal-M modules are crafted for maximum stability and efficiency. Each unit measures 6.0m x 3.0m x 2.8m, with customizable lengths from 3m to 6m, making them both compact and highly transportable. Their foldable design allows for swift relocation—even in challenging or remote environments—streamlining logistics for emergency deployment.
- Rapid Assembly: Units are delivered fully folded; two or three workers can install a module in less than an hour on a leveled site, using a crane to unfold roof and wall segments in sequence.
- Modularity & Versatility: Every module accommodates two beds and essential amenities, with provisions for linking additional units, expanding space as needed. Select modules can be converted to accommodate toilets or larger groups.
- Efficient Design: Featuring four foldable wall panels with robust hinges, modules lie flat for easy storage or initialization. All electrical and lighting provisions are integrated, ensuring readiness both when stored and deployed.
- Customizable Features: PoliTal-M units may be tailored for specific requirements, including options for integrated foldable tables, enhancing their utility in varied scenarios.
Empowering India’s Response and Infrastructure
This transfer strengthens India’s capacity to respond effectively to disasters, healthcare demands, and rapid urbanization. Modular, rapidly deployable units like PoliTal-M can revolutionize emergency shelter systems, healthcare infrastructure, and remote accommodations, aligning with national priorities for resilience and sustainable innovation.
With such partnerships between government research institutions and forward-thinking companies like Sehgal Doors Ltd., India’s industry gains access to state-of-the-art technology designed for tangible societal impact—championing safety, efficiency, and adaptability in every sector.
